Water Aid

Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are basic human rights. They should be a normal part of daily life for everyone, everywhere – but they aren't. Water Aid works with partners in some of the toughest places in the world to reach millions of people with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

And while installing taps and toilets is essential to the work, Water Aid also works in the areas of hygiene, climate change and for women and girls. Typically responsible for domestic chores, it's usually women and girls who are expected to collect water from unsafe sources like rivers, streams and holes in the ground. The journey is often dangerous, and the sheer weight of full containers can leave life-long injuries. The time spent fetching water – often hours, every single day – is time that could be better spent in school, earning a living, or with family.

We convince governments to change laws, link policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rally support from people and organisations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.

Rickmansworth Baptist Church supports Water Aid through the retiring offering after morning worship.
